There are many “right” ways to host a farm field trip, and each farm does it differently. This series of workshops with the Farm-based Education Network offers windows into field trips with different farm-based organizations including Shelburne Farms (Jan. 8), Grow Food Northampton (Feb. 4), Poughkeepsie Farm Project (Feb. 19), and Coastal Roots (March 12).
In each workshop, hosts will describe:
Recruiting schools and marketing field trips
Communicating with teachers
Designing the trip with farm educator(s)
Choosing learning outcomes
Week-of and day-of logistics
Schedule or flow of the trip
Post-trip communications with teachers
Post-trip debrief or reflection strategies with staff
A reflection on the question, “How much can you do on a field trip?
