Community Food Systems Workshop Funding DUE

The Indiana Department of Health, Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity (IDOH, DNPA) is offering up to $4,000 in funding to two communities within Indiana for Community Food Systems Workshops to support project development, education, and strategic planning to build more resilient, equitable local food systems. The breakdown of provided materials is below and it is expected that the opportunity be provided to attendees free of charge. This grant opportunity is funded through the annual federal SNAP-Ed allocation that each state receives from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and supports the Regional Food Systems Partnership Grant (Partners IN Food), awarded by the USDA to the state of Indiana (through the Northwest Indiana Food Council) in 2021, of which IDOH, DNPA is a lead partner.

The objectives of the Community Food Systems Workshops are to:

  1. Learn fundamental principles of food systems and equity frameworks and establish shared language and analysis among participants.

  2. Facilitate connections between food systems advocates and multi-sectoral leaders and decision makers.

  3. Help participants recognize how community planning and programs can influence the local food system and increase food access.

  4. Provide participants with practical tools and ideas for building resilient, equitable local food systems.
