Bethany Christian School Cultivates Sustainability with Farm to School Program
At Bethany Christian Schools in Goshen, Indiana, students are getting a hands-on education in sustainability and healthy eating through the school's innovative farm to school program. The program, which has been expanding in recent years, provides an immersive experience that connects students directly with the food they consume. The school's campus now features an on-site greenhouse where students cultivate fresh produce, as well as numerous garden beds bursting with vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Bethany Christian has even added a chicken coop that's home to 13 hens, allowing students to gather fresh eggs and learn about animal husbandry. Scattered around the property, pear trees offer yet another opportunity for students to understand the origin of their food. From the youngest learners in kindergarten to the high school seniors preparing to graduate, the farm to school initiative engages students at every grade level.
